IBM has again been named the top cloud performer in Longhaus' annual Australian cloud-provider report, which ranks providers of infrastructure as a service. From a list of 175 providers that offer cloud services to Australian firms, 50 were qualified to be evaluated by Longhaus, and 45 were shortlisted using the answers to over 90 survey questions

    Broadband wholesaler Eftel has reported a half-year loss of $3.1 million due to writing down its BroadbandNext DSLAM equipment, worth $3.9 million. The company stated in its financial report released yesterday that the board viewed its BroadbandNext DSLAM network equipment as being "impaired", and wrote down the assets at the end of 2011

    A recent domain seizure has shown that the US Government doesn't need the Stop Online Piracy Act to do something about websites that contravene its laws and principles. It also accused them of arranging payment of winnings from bank accounts outside the country to US gamblers, as well as payments made to companies inside the US for site promotion

    A laptop stolen from NASA last year contained command codes used to control the International Space Station, an internal investigation has found. The laptop, which was not encrypted, was among dozens of mobile devices lost or stolen in recent years that contained sensitive information, the space agency's inspector general told Congress in testimony highlighting NASA's security challenges.     Optus has launched two unlimited data roaming packages for Australians travelling to select destinations in Asia. The Bridge DataRoamUnlimited packs are available in two options: a $27, three-day pack; and a $40, five-day pack. If the user continues to use their phone past the nominated days, they will be charged at Optus' standard roaming rates of $0.15 per kilobyte, or $15.36 per megabyte (for Bridge Alliance customers).
