    Melbourne is no longer photographing number plates to determine those who are overstaying their welcome in the city's paid parking bays, after technology issues thwarted the system. (Parking meter image by Alpha , CC BY-SA 2.0 ) The system uses a high-speed digital camera with built-in GPS and optical character-recognition capabilities. It was driven around the streets of Flemington, Kensington, North Melbourne and Carlton to track how long cars had been sitting in parking bays.

    PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has been appointed to look after GAME Australia as the company today entered voluntary administration. According to PwC, the company will continue to operate its 92 stores around the country, while it "considers a solution for the future".

    It seems that the entitled, technology-savvy passengers of today just aren't scared of their aeroplane dropping from the sky and crashing into a flaming heap. This morning, Crikey pointed out a news item from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), which said that its voluntary confidential reporting scheme, REPCON, had received complaints about passengers using their phones for texting and internet during flights from Sydney to Melbourne.

    Telstra and Vodafone have released carrier setting updates to iPad owners, enabling the Personal Hotspot feature on the new iPad, and allowing users to share the data available through the SIM card with other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. (Credit: Apple) Australia's other major telco, Optus, has yet to release a similar update for its customers.

    Security researchers have put out a call to the public to help verify the claim that hackers that are targeting Wi-Fi networks in hotels. The warning was sounded last week , with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issuing an intelligence note stating that its recent analysis has found that travellers are being targeted when they connect to their hotel room internet connections
