Telstra testing ICS update for HTC Velocity

Telstra is in the testing phase for a major firmware update for the HTC Velocity, which will upgrade the Android platform on the handset to the latest version of Android, known as Ice Cream Sandwich. (Credit: HTC) Telstra Director of Device Management Andrew Volard confirmed last night that the telco is testing the Ice Cream Sandwich update on the new HTC Velocity, with sources at HTC saying that they are working towards a mid-February release date for the update.

Samsung, HTC to build BlackBerrys?

Electronics manufacturers Samsung and HTC have been name checked in a US analyst's report suggesting that BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) could soon license its BlackBerry operating system to interested third-party hardware companies. A Samsung tab running BlackBerry 10 OS may already be on the drawing board. (Credit: Samsung/CBSi) Boy Genius Report is crediting industry analyst Peter Misek with the information, with Misek naming "Samsung, HTC and possibly others" as likely licensees of the as-yet-unreleased BlackBerry 10 OS.

Some HTC devices banned in the US

The US International Trade Commission has banned the import of many HTC Android phones from April because they infringe on patents held by Apple. Luckily, HTC already has a way to get around this patent, which it could implement in a firmware update
